Map Underwater 3D Morphology Over Time
When inspecting features underwater with the ULS-100 Underwater Laser Scanner there are sometimes significant logistical constraints. If there is interest in an area and how it changes over a series of hours or even days it is impractical to have a diver in the water or to have personnel on site to operate the sensor for the entire duration of the investigation.
Data Acquisition System
2G Robotics has developed an underwater data acquisition system allowing the sensor to operate without needing a cable to the surface. The system can be programmed to perform a scan each time a diver activates the system or alternatively the system can be programmed to perform a series of inspections at regular intervals. By programming the system to capture underwater scans at regular intervals, the system can be deployed for multiple days and capture scans every few minutes providing a series of 3D snapshots, allowing researchers to understand how their items of interest are changing over time. Applications include measuring changes in seabed morphology, measuring mussel bed migration and understanding the growth of biological organisms.
