Subsea pipelines present a variety of different engineering challenges compared to onshore pipelines. Offshore pipelines are exposed to higher external pressures and colder temperatures, and unless buried or trenched in the seabed, they are subject to currents and tidal movements. As a result the importance of inspecting these lines to avoid environmental disasters and significant financial liabilities is critical. Additionally, optimal allocation of pipeline maintenance budgets is critical and the ability to know with higher certainty where repairs are required and where repairs are not needed will ensure both continued safe operation of these sebsea assets and minimize expenses.

 

Operate the Laser Scanner in Pipe profile Mode or Scan Mode

The 2G Robotics ULS-100 Underwater Laser Scanner can operate in a profile mode where successive pipe profiles are captured as the sensor is traversed over a pipeline by an ROV. In addition, in areas where damage is identified, the scanner can be directed to operate in scanning mode. In this mode the ROV is held stationary, sitting on or beside the pipe and a highly detailed 3D model of the damaged pipe section can be created.
